Ken Gray-Ericka Rere Legacy Project - 'Jersey Reveal'

Join the Paremata-Plimmerton Rugby Club, as we honour the legacy of two of our greats, Ken Gray and Ericka Rere, and the Whenua the Club sits on.

As part of a wider project, we will be removing 8 jerseys that All Black Ken Gray swapped with other teams over the historic time of 1963-1969. These have been sitting on the clubroom walls for 40+ years and are part of international history!

The jerseys are only a small part of the story. The Ken Gray story needs to be told, more around the integrity, character and values versus the rugby player. Ken retired on boxing day 1969 so was unavailable for the 1970 tour of South Africa. He did not support Apartheid and took a stand, despite Māori still going, but classed as honorary whites. This then gave momentum to a movement in NZ that peaked in 1981 when SA returned to play.

Ericka's jersey was worn in the first Black Ferns test played in 1991. Ericka was part of the legendary 1990 Paremata-Plimmerton women's team that won the inaugural Wellington Women's competition.

Joining us at this event will be Dame Farah Palmer (NZRU Board), Stephen Berg (Director Rugby Museum) and Adam Julian (NZRU Biographer All Blacks and Black Ferns), representatives from NZRU and WRFU and other special guests and dignitaries.Friday, 23rd FebruaryBar open from 6pm - seated by 7pm
